Founded in 1988 and exhibiting in over 41 countries, Dialogue in the Dark is a fully immersive experience in total darkness. People are led by guides who are blind or have low vision, and learn to interact and communicate by relying on other senses. We speak with guide Francois Jacobs about the experience and what people can gain from it and what it might mean for the blind and low vision community.

This week, tune in to the joy of braille and music with our most popular show of the year, the  National Braille Music Camp. Every year in late June, blind music students and their mentors from around Australia come together for the National Braille Music Camp at Mittagong in the New South Wales Southern Highlands. One of the camp leaders Jordie Howell, co-hosts this program with Stella Glorie in which they speak with two camp participants, and play some of the music created during the week of celebration and fun learning.

This week on Talking Vision, we replay a reading and an interview from H.E. Governor-General Sir Peter Cosgrove when he visited Vision Australia Radio in Kooyong. Sir Peter  said: “I became aware that there was a station for the print handicapped in Canberra and thought what a logical and sensible thing to do so, I wandered over and asked if they would mind if I did a couple of volunteer reading sessions.”

Also on the program, Cathy Lambert from the Australian Paralympic Committee on an upcoming classification opportunity and we pay tribute to Yankunytjatjara elder and activist Yami Lester who passed away in July. Mr Lester suffered vision impairment after being blinded by a nuclear test bomb that blew though his homelands in the far north of South Australia during the 1950s.
